Don’t Let A Little Sunshine Reveal Dirty Secrets

The gray skies are starting to clear up and sunshine is returning to the Pacific Northwest. Letting sunlight shine in can boost moods as well as bring a bit of warmth. But as the days get lighter and longer all the bright sun beaming through the windows highlights the dust and cobwebs that winter darkness so efficiently hid. It’s time to tackle some spring cleaning and if you’re not up for the job, turn to Myles O’Donnell & Co. We’re happy to do the dirty work. . Dusting seems like a simple enough task, but there is a bit of experience that plays into getting the job done right. Common sense says to start at the top as gravity pulls everything down, even dust. As you clean door and window frames, ceiling light fixtures, and those top shelves, every swipe of a cloth and everything you move sends down a trickle of fine particles. It might seem that a better duster would be able to hold all that dust in and not let it fall, but no product is perfect. However, some are better than others. Wand dusters generally tackle bigger jobs and feather dusters work for lighter areas, and, of course, a good microfiber or similar type cloth can handle almost anything. No matter what is used, regular shaking is required to remove the dust that you’ve already captured. Just remember to do this part outside or you’ll be dispersing all that dirt you just spent time cleaning up. The fabric on furniture and curtains are also places where dust accumulates. No one wants to invite a client to have a seat and watch a spray of dust waft into the sunlight as he sinks into a chair. Running a damp cloth over those cushions and regular washing of curtains can prevent the embarrassment of a dust cloud. Similarly, regular vacuuming of carpets and rugs reduces dust accumulation too. A mat placed strategically by the front door is the perfect way to capture all the dirt and dust that arrives on the soles of everyone’s shoes. Just remember to shake these out from time to time, outside of course. What’s more important than how you dust or what products you use, is to ensure you take your time to hit every surface, from baseboard to ceiling, and to dust frequently. We understand that cleaning is not how you’d like to spend your time in the office, nor would you like your employees to write messages in the dust that accumulates on the conference table. Cleaning is really best left to the experts who can come in when your business is closed, dust, vacuum, scour, and wipe to leave behind a sparkling clean office for your morning arrival. Myles O’Donnell & Co. is just the team you need to put your best foot forward. We believe employees are more productive and happier when they work in a clean environment. We are happy to work with you on a cleaning schedule that best fits the needs of your employees and your business. Contact us and let’s discuss a cleaning schedule that works for you, starting with removing all that winter dirt and dust buildup.
